The late Milena Brgoč, past president (2001-2005) of Slovenian Association Melbourne, founded the archive of the Slovenian Association Melbourne. Milena Brgoč so understood the importance of the archive, that she pressed for it to become an independent entity. In September 1998, the association’s archive became the Historical Archives of Slovenians in Australia or Historični Arhiv Slovencev v Avstraliji in short HASA (later HASA – Victoria to distinguish it from HASA NSW, which was established and registered in 2003).
An agreement with State Library of Victoria was signed in 1998 for HASA’s collection of documents, books, photos and important items to be assigned to the Victoria State Library in the future.
